RTIA Workshop: Understanding Licensing & Accreditation

Understanding Licensing & Accreditation in Alberta’s Recovery Communities and Bed-Based Addiction Treatment Services offered practical guidance for organizations at every stage of development—from early planning to fully licensed and accredited programs.

Participants heard directly from representatives of Alberta Mental Health and Addiction – Compliance and Monitoring (CAM) Unit as well as an experienced Accreditation Canada surveyor. The session focused on strengthening compliance, enhancing quality, and streamlining operational processes.

Attendees gained insights into how to:
• Understand licensing and accreditation requirements in Alberta
• Navigate application processes and meet compliance standards
• Prepare for ongoing monitoring and site visits
• Strengthen operational systems and support continuous improvement

In addition to the formal learning, the day provided a valuable opportunity for participants to connect with peers, share experiences, and build relationships within Alberta’s recovery-oriented system of care.
